Let’s start with my qualifications to write about life, humanity or even brain injury… I have none, well no formal ones anyway. Let’s just say that in the 7 years since my life was rebooted by a major car accident, I’ve been on a quest to meet myself post brain injury, and in the process have learned more about life and humanity than in my previous few decades on this earth.

Tara Bridger — Brain injury survivor shares about living a life rebooted

My natural curiosity, experiences and hundreds of audiobooks have turned me into an armchair psychologist, sociologist, sex therapist, philosopher, explorer of world religions, disabilities advocate, and a fledgling neuroscientist with an experience based minor in parenting.

Some things about having your life suddenly rebooted are hard, and there are days I yearn for my former self. But then there is this other side, the side where I was suddenly forced to step back and learn how to interact with people and life all over again, with a whole new point of view. That fast paced, high powered, A-type executive lifestyle had to give way to a slower, unfamiliar path with all new obstacles, but also so much new beauty to be discovered along the way.

So, there you go. How can someone change their busy life and reconnect with their humanity? I don’t recommend my ultra-fast method… getting T-Boned by a transport truck. But perhaps, if you want a less painful shortcut to see what a life changing event can teach you, plus some laughs, tears, cringeworthy mistakes and celebratory moments… you can follow me here.
